REFLECTION

Experience
At the beginning of the semester, I always wanted to know the lessons I was taking, especially typography. At first I wasn't completely sure, but I was excited to learn new material about typography from how to express ideas. During the study I realized that this module was very useful. Even though there are many tasks that challenge me and make it difficult for me, such as making typefaces, layouts, and composition. But Ms. V always helps me, so I can learn new knowledge. The task that I think is the most difficult is task 1, exercise 1, regarding type expressions. I always struggle to come up with unique and new ideas, but with a lot of help, I can complete the task well. I also have difficulty working on typefaces, but with a lot of brainstorming, I can complete the task well. This can encourage me to improve myself both academically and personally.

I liked working independently, which is something I don’t often get to do in other modules. The assignments given by my lecturer are well placed throughout the semester; this can help me do my assignments better in an orderly manner. The feedback given can also always be useful for me, so that I can improve my shortcomings to become even better. Overall, I am happy to be able to study this typography module. I got many benefits from this module for the future.

Observation
During the course of this module, I became more aware of typography in everyday life. Sometimes when I walk, I usually pay attention to posters, advertisements, and brochures on the road; I even like to pay attention to writing in books, on signs, and on social media, and without realizing it, I usually like to analyze the writing.
Even though at first I thought typography was not that important, when studying the module, I now understand and realize that typography has a big influence on our design and communication experience. During this month I always observe the tasks my friends have done.
It was interesting to see how differently my classmates performed the same tasks, and it made me think more creatively about my own work. Seeing everyone's work really adds to the experience.

Findings
At the start of the module, I mostly saw typography as an artistic pursuit, focusing mainly on how things looked. But as time went by, I learned typography; I learned that there are still many things there. For example, I was able to learn the technical side of typography, such as spacing, alignment, tracking, kerning, and consistency, which really made me do a lot. brainstorming and opened my eyes to think creatively. I learned how small changes, such as adjusting the size of letters or adding lines, can change the meaning and impact of a design. Most importantly, I realized how much I enjoyed learning typography. This is something I want to explore further, even after this course ends.
