    LECTURE

    Invisible Set Extension (Production)

For the production phase, we will develop our selected concepts through photobashing. I created three different concepts during the ideation stage, but I am currently more drawn to two concept, as I believe it has the strongest composition and visual direction. After discussing it with my lecturer, I was informed that it is acceptable to proceed with this concept as the primary direction for the final outcome.

However, I also plan to complete the third concept to further explore its potential and compare the results. Any refinements and updates will be included in my final submission for my final project, allowing me to evaluate which concept best achieves the intended atmosphere and storytelling.

    MoodBoard and Styleguide

My moodboard was developed based on visual references from several scenes in Godzilla x Kong, particularly focusing on the scale, atmosphere, and cinematic environmental design. I also explored additional style references from ice caves and natural cave environments to guide the visual direction of my photobashing process.

These references helped me establish the overall mood, environmental structure, lighting approach, and material details for the scene. By combining elements from cinematic monster environments and cave formations, I aimed to create a setting that feels grand, mysterious, and immersive while maintaining a strong sense of scale.

    Progress
    #1 Concept

The first concept is based on a cave environment. The main focus of this concept is creating a transition between one photobash scene and the next, allowing the environment to feel more connected and cinematic when presented as a sequence.

For the initial progress, I improved my sketch and began developing the photobash in Photoshop. However, I encountered difficulties with controlling the cutting and trimming process, which affected my workflow and efficiency. To overcome this issue, I decided to use Procreate as an alternative tool because it provided better control and flexibility when editing and refining the photobash elements.

After completing the editing process in Procreate, I exported the file back into Photoshop to continue the development and prepare it for further refinement. This workflow helped me manage the details more effectively while maintaining the overall direction of the concept.

The first photobash transition starts with a simple cave environment. The camera will move deeper into the dark cave, gradually revealing the second cave through a fade-in lighting transition to create a more cinematic and immersive experience.

    #2 Concept

For the second concept, I chose a temple cave environment. The camera movement will guide the viewer through a large cave before revealing the hidden temple, creating a sense of discovery and scale.

During the process, I developed the concept from the initial sketch to an improved sketch and then into photobashing. My main challenge was creating the temple structure, so I combined elements from free temple references and modified them to create my own temple design that fits the environment.

    Camera Transition Plan

This is the planned camera transition for the second concept. The camera will move through the large cave environment and gradually reveal the hidden temple, creating a cinematic sense of exploration and discovery.

    #3 Concept

For the third concept, I will use it as an opportunity for experimentation and further practice. Although I am currently less satisfied with this concept compared to the others, I see its potential as a learning process to improve my skills and explore new ideas. I will continue refining and developing this concept while figuring out the best direction for the final outcome, and I will provide updates in the future.

    FEEDBACK

    • For the feedback received, my lecturer mentioned that the blending in Concept 1 could be improved, as the transition between elements was not smooth enough. He suggested adding a fade blur effect in the background to create a better connection between scenes. I will revise this before the final project, and the updated camera movement and improvements will be shown in the final submission and future blog updates.

For Concept 2, the main feedback was regarding the use of warm and cool tones, as the contrast between them felt too strong. My lecturer suggested focusing on a cooler tone and blending the overall color palette more consistently to create a more cohesive atmosphere.

    REFLECTION

    Experience

During this project, I experienced the challenges of developing a photobash environment, especially when searching for suitable assets and modifying them to match the concept. Finding the right assets was more difficult than expected, particularly when using free image resources, as the choices were often limited. This process taught me the importance of adapting and adjusting available resources to fit the desired visual direction.

    Observation

Throughout the process, I noticed that blending different assets requires careful attention to details such as lighting, color, and texture consistency. I experimented with color correction and adjustments to make the elements feel more connected within the environment. Although I am still improving in this area, I learned that creating a cohesive scene requires more than just combining images together.

    Findings

From this project, I learned that photobashing involves a lot of trial and error, especially during asset selection and refinement. Even though the process was time-consuming, it helped me understand the importance of blending techniques, color correction, and visual consistency. I gained valuable experience in developing environments and will continue improving my skills, especially in creating smoother transitions and stronger color integration.
