Experience
At the beginning of the dissertation process, I found the work challenging, as this was my first experience producing a dissertation-level project. The unfamiliar structure and expectations initially made it difficult for me to organise my ideas and develop my research confidently. However, through extensive research and by actively seeking guidance from my lecturer as well as feedback from peers, I gradually gained a clearer understanding of the process. Although the workload was stressful at times—particularly when I experienced moments of being stuck—these challenges encouraged me to think more critically and persistently about my research direction.
Observation
Throughout the process, I observed that consistent communication and feedback played a crucial role in improving my work. Discussions with my lecturer and classmates helped me refine my ideas and approach the research more effectively. I also noticed that creative-based outputs felt more natural to me as a student of Entertainment Design. Working on articles and e-publications allowed me to engage with the research without feeling overwhelmed, as these formats aligned well with my design-oriented skills.
Findings
One key finding from this experience is that integrating research with creative practice can significantly improve both motivation and understanding. In particular, designing the e-publication book inspired by Animal Crossing enabled me to translate academic research into a visual and interactive format that reflected my strengths. This approach not only reduced the difficulty of the process but also enhanced my engagement with the subject matter. Overall, the experience has helped me develop stronger problem-solving skills, greater resilience, and a deeper appreciation for research-driven design.
