LECTURE
The lecture was conducted in class and explained through a video presentation.
Project 1
The objective of this module is to design a vehicle, and the first project emphasizes developing the vehicle’s exterior design.
World Explanation
During the final years of the Great War, humanity’s obsession with creating the perfect soldier birthed V-0, a regenerative serum by Umbra Industries that twisted into a mutagenic plague. The dead rose, nations fell, and the world drowned in its own creation—the Red War, where mankind fought not for power but survival. Cities became burning quarantine zones, soldiers became monsters, and science became religion. From the ashes of Umbra’s experiments would one day rise the Umbrella Corporation, inheriting a world where infection replaced evolution—and the living were outnumbered by their own mistakes.
References
Since my aircraft concept is a fighter jet set in the World War II era with elements inspired by Resident Evil, I explored several references that fit this theme.

Thumbnail Sketch
I created several thumbnail sketches, some of which were inspired by the style of the Resident Evil games, combining sci-fi, horror, military, and action elements. I also integrated these stylistic ideas with designs of historical aircraft from World War II, including planes from the US, UK, Japan, and others. Sir Kanan mentioned that I am on the right track, but I need to gather more references to make the model feel more authentic to the era while also giving it a unique identity.

silhouettes
Next, I worked on silhouettes by selecting one of the aircraft designs from my sketches. I created new sketches using silhouettes to help me better visualize the overall shape of my aircraft. I also experimented by masking and cutting certain parts, then combining them in new ways, which allowed me to develop a fresh and unique aircraft form.

Rough Value Painting
After that, I selected five silhouette designs and conducted value painting studies for each of them.

1 design jet breakdown and revision
After that, I selected one design—the design I plan to present—and created a breakdown to clarify its structure. However, this design still requires several revisions, including:
-
Extending the rear fins.
-
Bending the wings downward to create a more unique silhouette.
-
Correcting some perspective issues.
-
Other adjustments as needed.

As a result, I created a new design that is similar to the previous one but with several modifications. I also refined some of the breakdowns to make the structure clearer. However, this design still requires revisions, such as using box guides to ensure the angles are more accurate.

Jet Breakdown Final Design
After several revisions and refinements, I was able to complete my jet design, including a comprehensive breakdown detailing its structure and components.

Color Exploration
For the color scheme, I wanted to create a slightly Halloween-inspired look while maintaining contrast. From my observations, many historical aircraft used a mix of bright and dark contrasting colors. I experimented with combinations of blue, gray, and orange. During the color consultation, Sir Kanan mentioned that he liked colors #1 and #4 and suggested combining these two for the final design.

REFLECTION
Experience
During Project 1, I faced several challenges, particularly in revising and finalizing the design of my jet. Deciding on the exact form and structure of the aircraft was difficult, and I also struggled with rendering, as it required a significant amount of time and precision. This project highlighted the importance of practicing perspective, as it plays a crucial role in accurately representing the design. Despite these difficulties, I enjoyed the process, as it allowed me to learn new skills and push my creative boundaries.
Observation
Throughout the project, I studied references from historical aircraft and the works of senior students to understand how to make my design both unique and visually engaging. Observing different approaches to color, form, and detailing helped me identify areas that could be improved in my own work. I also learned the value of combining multiple references and experimenting with different design elements to develop a more distinctive jet concept.
Findings
This project taught me the importance of iteration, practice, and observation in design development. I realized that challenges such as perspective, rendering, and revisions are opportunities to refine both technical skills and creative decision-making. Overall, the project had its ups and downs, but it was an enjoyable and valuable learning experience that enhanced my understanding of aircraft design and the design process as a whole.
