LECTURES

WEEK 2 : Physical Collage

We were introduced to Physical Collage in week 2, focusing on composition and layering. We also learn about third rule, using big, medium, and small magezine cut outs. Our tasks for the week were to make 3 composition with our physical collage. He explained about the golden ratio and also the focal point for our collage, and for the future.

During self-directed learning we are taught important points, namely photography. We have to master this point well. Focal Point :

an element that attracts attention because it is more dramatic than other elements. The focal point does not have to be a wall with darker paint or a more striking color than the other walls.

after that, the next important point is the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds in photography is a guideline that places the subjects in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open.It divides a photo into nine equal parts, split by two equally spaced horizontal and vertical lines.

Then we have the golden ratio. The golden ratio, also known as the golden number, golden proportion or the divine proportion, is a ratio between two numbers that equals approximately 1.618. Usually written as the Greek letter phi, it is strongly associated with the Fibonacci sequence, a series of numbers wherein each number is added to the last.

In photography we also have to master 3 element sizes, namely large, medium, and small. This is important to get the right composition.

INSTRUCTION

PROJECT 1 / Exercise 2 – Physical Collage

Week 2 : Process
The first thing I did was determine the concept and reference idea. At that time I wanted my collage to have a sad theme and a gloomy background.

After that I looked for pictures from magazines that had a sad or blue theme.I use magazines from Uniqlo. I think this magazine is suitable to help me in making collages.

Then I cut out the picture that i want to used and starting arranging the picture into different compositions.

Week 2 : Composition

Then I composed 3 different collages. I like every composed that I made. They have each other meaning and story, suits the theme that I have been planing on.

first composition

for the first composition, I initially had the idea to make the main element look sad and crying in the clouds, like visualizing rain. I then added other elements to help support that.

Second Composition

For the second composition I want to play my element telling that he is being influenced by someone, so that makes him feel confused and has a lot of thoughts. But all is just a dream from the other side element.

Third Composition

For composition 3 I want to tell about the past and the future. So all elements that are related to time I include, so that they can support the story.

FEEDBACK

Week 2

In this week, we received feed back from Mr.Fauzi he said that My composition is good but there is something lacking so he said I had to add more photos so that my collage could show an expression of the existing story, but overall my composition is good.
