Project 1 Week 7 : Double Exposure
LECTURES
This week we learned about color theory. Color theory is the study of how colors work together and how
they effect our emotions and perceptions. It's a combination of art and science that helps artists,
designers, and creators choose colors for their
projects.
RGB and CMYK are really just descriptions of how to mix colors.
RGB stands for Red, Greeen, and Blue, while CMYK stands for
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and a Key color (most often black). As for why there's more than one standard, the process for
mixing colors is fundamentally different between printing and
monitors.
INSTRUCTION
PROJECT 2 / Exercise 7 – Double Exposure
Exercise 7.1
This week we were given an assignment regarding
double exposure, which was explained during
self-directed learning. We are given video tutorials
for completing assignments given by our
lecturers.
I started following the video tutorial process of clipping the
photo so I could make a double exposure of the image. At first I
had difficulty following the video tutorial but finally I was
able to do the process. After that, I clipped the layer so that
the background photo could be included in the model photo.
At first I had difficulty with gradient colors, because in
Photoshop I didn't have those colors available, so I had to
match the colors with the video tutorial. Finally I found a
color that was similar, but not exactly the same.
Final Double Exposure
Exercise 7.2
For the next assignment we were told to do the same as
the first exercise but we used photos of our faces. At
that time, I was also looking for double exposure
references that could help in my brainstorming.
After looking for references I started executing the
photos. I use a side profile angle but not 90 degrees. I
plan to take 2 personalities, one greedy and one
gloomy.
These are the elements and background that I used in
double exposure for my photos. I used several places and
buildings that convey emptiness and richness.
At the beginning I cut out my face with the photo
background so I could add a new background. After
cropping, I added the first element and masked the
layer. I used opacity to help adjust the brightness of
the double exposure. From this task I used clipping
tools, layer masks, brushes, and opacity.
Initially I wanted to include a gradient of red and
black, but if you look closely at the color and double
exposure it won't be very visible because it's covered
by the red so it's hard to see so I changed it again to
white and black. There are several photos that I
have colored so that I can give the photo the main focus
of the colored light.
